The Culinary Institute of America to build New Student Housing at its Hyde Park Campus
12-Nov-2010 The World’s Premier Culinary College Signs Contract with Hudson Valley-Based Kirchhoff-Properties to Create New “Green” Buildings
The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) is responding to the increased housing demands of its student population by announcing plans to build new residences that will house up to 300 students. The project will include many “green” features such as geothermal heating and cooling, high density spray foam insulation, low to no V.O.C. paints and flooring, and low-e glass windows. In addition, the residences will feature great rooms with kitchens with commercial equipment, dedicated study/computer areas, private bedrooms, and laundry facilities.
As a developer run project, the team of Pleasant Valley-based Kirchhoff Properties , - Construction managers Kirchhoff - Consigli Construction Management; project architects Noelker & Hull Associates; project site/civil engineer, Poughkeepsie-based Chazen Companies; land use attorneys Cuddy & Feder; and the CIA will work together to design and construct these new student accommodations. Noelker & Hull’s previous success at designing the CIA’s award-winning Anton Plaza, Student Lodges, and Admissions Building, along with Kirchhoff-Consigli’s quality and experience in building thousands of beds of student housing, ensure that the project will create a truly engaging environment for future generations of chefs.
Once completed Kirchhoff Companies property management arm, Kirchhoff Property Management, Inc. will manage the facilities under a long term property management contract.
This new housing will carry forward the CIA’s dedication to conservation. Existing residence lodges built between 2004 and 2007 have received numerous awards. In 2007, the CIA received an energy rebate from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) of more than $337,000 in recognition of the unique energy efficient design and construction of the buildings.
The new residence hall project will support the economy here in the Hudson Valley and employ at least 75 individuals in the community. Construction is anticipated to begin pending approval of the Town of Hyde Park, with the goal being to complete the new buildings by the end of 2011.
